Solving Head Lice Scalp Problems Naturally

There are safer alternatives to use in order to rid children of head lice than what is sold in our stores and prescribed by our doctors! All of the commercial lice killers out there are extremely dangerous, and can cause very serious problems when they are used on a child that is younger than what the package directions tell you is "safe", used more frequently than what the directions on the package tell you, or if they are left on the head for too long. Are you safe if you just read the directions? No, because you still have the problem with absorbing all of those poisons through your skin. Think of the people that, for one reason or another, don't read directions. Perhaps they don't understand English. Maybe they figure that the head lice shampoo is no different than any other shampoo; just let it stay in the hair awhile to kill off all the "bugs", and then there will be no more scalp problems with lice. No, it doesn't work like that, and to believe that it will is a dangerous assumption.
A quick and easy way to solve lice scalp problems is with mayonnaise. It can be homemade mayonnaise or mayonnaise from the store. Just make sure it is not something like Miracle Whip. It must be real mayonnaise, and it must not be cold, as in straight from the refrigerator cold. Use as much mayonnaise as you need to saturate and cover all of your child's hair. You can either use a plastic shower cap, or fashion one from a plastic grocery sack, to keep the sometimes drippy mayonnaise off of floors, carpets, clothing and furniture.
Do this mayonnaise treatment for scalp problems early enough in the evening so that you have 2 hours to allow the mayonnaise to do its work, and the time it will take for comb-out as well. The mayonnaise is going to smother the little horrors and their developed eggs, and needs time to do so. It is also going to allow the nits, or eggs, to slide off of the hair easily.
When the two hours is up, remove the shower cap or plastic bag and dispose of it quickly. It's now time to shampoo the hair. It may take three or four shampoos to get out all the oil.
If for some reason, you don't want to use mayonnaise, you can make up your own natural shampoo I have dubbed "the 5 mixture" that will kill the head lice and relieve you of the scalp problems that they cause. You will need:
- Olive oil to use as a base, or carrier oil, 5 teaspoons
- Tea Tree essential oil, 5 drops
- Rosemary essential oil, 5 drops
- Lavender essential oil, 5 drops
- Peppermint essential oil, 5 drops
- Eucalyptus essential oil, 5 drops
When time is up, throw the shower cap away, rinse off the hair and scalp, and then shampoo with your regular shampoo. Just a note you must use olive oil in this shampoo recipe. Not all oils have the ability to dissolve the outer skeletons of the head lice. Olive oil does, and so does coconut oil. Olive oil is more readily available, which is why it was chosen for the recipe.
Now, you are ready for Step Two. Once you have shampooed and rinsed with water, rinse the hair with full strength vinegar, apple cider preferred, but white will do. This helps to loosen up the glue-like substance that holds the lice eggs on the hair strands. Rinse thoroughly with hot water.
Next, you must remove the nits, or eggs, that the shampooing and rinsing did not wash down the drain. This is an important step, because no child care facility or school is going to let your child come back if there are any eggs still attached to their hair.
First, comb through the hair (there should be very few, if any tangles) with a regular comb. You will need to buy what is called a nit comb, which you can find in the store in the same area where they sell that horrid, poison-filled head lice shampoo. If by chance you can't find a nit comb, go to the pet department and see if they have a flea comb. The two combs are pretty much the same.
Comb the hair thoroughly with the nit comb to get the eggs off the hair shaft. Have a bowl of vinegar ready to plunge the comb into to get the eggs off. When you have combed through all the hair, allow it to dry naturally, then check it out again. As it is easier to see the eggs on dry hair, you may well find more nits. Comb them off and place them in the vinegar.
Do realize that every other human in the house is going to have to checked for nits so that the lice scalp problems do not spread to anyone else. As the nest week passes, if you continue to see any eggs, you will also want to mark your calendar so that you can do a second application of your natural head lice remedy.
All of your child's clothing and bedding and towels must be washed in hot water and dried in a dryer so the heat can do its work on any nits. Things like pillows, stuffed animals, and anything else that can't be washed should be sealed up in garbage bags for 2 weeks so that any nits on them that hatch out won't escape. It is claimed they can only live for 24 hours off of a human, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Floors and furniture should be thoroughly vacuumed, as should automobile interiors.
This is a lot of work, but lice scalp problems always are. The main thing is to do away with the lice without bringing harm to your child.
