If you are a dandruff sufferer, you will find that there are many commercial anti-dandruff shampoos and "magical elixirs" that promise to rid your scalp of dandruff once and for all. These products may well make you think you have cured your dandruff problem that is, if you continue to use them. These products should not be considered as home remedies for dandruff! An ingredient in a lot of commercial dandruff shampoos is called Sodium Laureth Sulfate. This ingredient is added to the different shampoos because it is so good at cutting grease. It also causes shampoo to foam up into mounds of suds, something most people want to feel and see when they are washing their hair. Sounds very nice, doesn't it? Well, it isn't nice at all. The ingredient Sodium Laureth Sulfate is also found in products such as degreaser for car and truck engines, tile cleaners, and washing powders! Do you really want something like that on your precious hair?
It's much easier to use natural home remedies for dandruff. It's better for your scalp, your hair, your body, and the environment, too! Can you imagine all the chemicals from the products we use that end up getting washed into the world's water supply? Plus, these home remedies for dandruff have been known to keep dandruff at bay for quite some time! And dermatologists claim there is no cure for dandruff? They need to learn about and recommend natural cures, but we all know that isn't likely to happen.
So, what are some of the popular home remedies for dandruff? One is apple cider vinegar. It's a popular hair rinse to banish dandruff because it is inexpensive, easy to locate, and easy to use, too. Oh... and it works, too! Do note that any time we speak of apple cider vinegar, we mean organic apple cider vinegar!
Apple cider vinegar will take your hair back to its natural and normal acidic pH after a shampoo. It is well known for smoothing and closing the hair's cuticle (which covers and protects the hair) on each individual strand, making the hair appear shiner. Your hair will also be much easier to manage after a rinse with this home remedy for dandruff.
Apple cider vinegar will also remove the different hair products such as cheap shampoos, hair spray, gel, or mousse as well or better than any clarifying shampoo. Since some dandruff is caused from a type of yeast on the scalp, the vinegar's anti-bacteria, anti-viral, and antiseptic makeup can banish dandruff after just one or two applications.
Just mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 2 cups of water to make a hair rinse that is a brilliant home remedy for dandruff. You may need more or less of this mixture, depending on the length and thickness of your hair. In fact, you can take an empty gallon jug, preferably plastic, that has a handle which will enable you to grip it while in the shower. You can mix 1/3 of a cup of apple cider vinegar into a quart of water, and keep this jug in your shower so it is ready for you to use. Pour the mixture on your head, and with your fingertips, massage it in gently. Do not rinse! And no, your hair will not smell like vinegar after it dries. It will be soft, easy to manage and most importantly, dandruff free.
