Has the heartbreak of psoriasis got you down? Do you despair of ever finding some way to get rid of this awful skin condition? Are you tired of spending money on prescription creams and lotions that just don't seem to work for you? You are not alone. People around the world have turned to a home remedy for psoriasis that they have found works for them. Many with this condition do not realize that what works for one person with psoriasis might not necessarily work for another person with psoriasis. So, it is necessary sometimes to try more than one home remedy for psoriasis in order to find one that will do the trick for you. Or, you may just get lucky and discover that the very first home remedy for psoriasis you use works wonders for your skin.
Even though doctors do not know exactly what causes psoriasis, they have observed that certain choices people make as far as what they eat and drink can make quite a difference in how often a psoriasis flare up occurs, and how bad the flare up is. So, a good home remedy for psoriasis is to eat and drink in a nutritionally sound way. No alcohol, plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins that are not red meat, whole grains, and the often quoted 8 glasses of water a day. Citrus fruits, tomatoes, animal fats, white sugar, tea, soft drinks and coffee should all be avoided.
Another home remedy for psoriasis is cabbage leaves. Wash them carefully, and cut out the large veins so as to help them lay flat. Apply them to the affected area as a compress, using plastic wrap to hold them on.
Aloe Vera gel is a proven home remedy for psoriasis. You can either cut open the leaves of an aloe vera plant and use the gel that you will see inside, or you can purchase pure, organic aloe vera gel. Whichever kind you end up using, rub the gel on the raised, itchy areas of psoriasis daily.
A marigold home remedy for psoriasis has been around for quite a while. To make this, take the heads of 8 small marigolds, or 4 large marigolds, and boil them briefly in 4 cups of water, just for about 2 or 3 minutes. Once cool, apply to the affected skin. Don't rinse!
A home remedy for psoriasis that seems to work for quite a few people is a form of lotion made with various pure oils. Use 1 cup of sunflower oil that you have mixed with a teaspoon of wheat germ oil and a teaspoon of castor oil. Use on the affected skin just like a lotion.
Oregano oil that has been mixed into cup of olive oil has proven successful in treating the itchy, flaky plaques of psoriasis. This home remedy for psoriasis can be easily mixed up and used on a daily basis. Use 2 drops of oregano oil, as it is quite strong.
A sea salt bath is a very good home remedy for psoriasis. Sea salt can be purchased at most health food stores, or if you live nearby a salt water ocean, go swimming and get some sun, too! The UV rays of the sun are well known for improving the skin of someone who has psoriasis.
There are several herbs that can be taken by mouth as a home remedy for psoriasis. Milk thistle, red clover, dandelion, yellow dock and chickweed are all said to be quite helpful in fighting off psoriasis.
Some people have used apple cider vinegar as a home remedy for psoriasis. It can be diluted with water first, or used full strength. The full strength application can sting a bit, but it is said to work wonders.
