If you are a dandruff sufferer, then you would probably do just about anything to learn how to get rid of dandruff. What is dandruff, anyway? Well, dandruff is a scalp condition where the surface of the scalp has started to shed its dead skin at an alarming rate. Normally, this shedding of skin takes place over a longer period of time than just a few days. But with dandruff, a fungus called that is a normal part of the scalp's makeup goes wild and causes the skin cells to multiply very fast. The ones that have risen to the top are shed off as flakes of skin. There is both a dry dandruff and an oily dandruff. Dry dandruff has smaller flakes, no odour, and oily dandruff has larger flakes, some a horrible yellow colour, with an oily texture. Some people who want to know how to get rid of dandruff swear that their dandruff is caused by a dry scalp, but those with both dry and oily scalps can be bothered with the embarrassment of dandruff, too. Dandruff seems to be worse during cold weather. Doctors aren't sure why.
