If you are a dandruff sufferer, then you would probably do just about anything to learn how to get rid of dandruff. What is dandruff, anyway? Well, dandruff is a scalp condition where the surface of the scalp has started to shed its dead skin at an alarming rate. Normally, this shedding of skin takes place over a longer period of time than just a few days. But with dandruff, a fungus called that is a normal part of the scalp's makeup goes wild and causes the skin cells to multiply very fast. The ones that have risen to the top are shed off as flakes of skin. There is both a dry dandruff and an oily dandruff. Dry dandruff has smaller flakes, no odour, and oily dandruff has larger flakes, some a horrible yellow colour, with an oily texture. Some people who want to know how to get rid of dandruff swear that their dandruff is caused by a dry scalp, but those with both dry and oily scalps can be bothered with the embarrassment of dandruff, too. Dandruff seems to be worse during cold weather. Doctors aren't sure why.

No one really knows what causes dandruff. Even doctors are at a loss as to how to get rid of dandruff. They have suggestions, of course, and most of them have to do with medicated shampoos. These shampoos can dry and damage the scalp and hair, leaving you in worse shape than before you used the shampoo! You can also be left with irritated skin, or even a chemical reaction from some of these over the counter dandruff shampoos. Dandruff can also be contagious. You can catch it by using the brush or comb of someone who already has dandruff, or wearing the hat of someone with dandruff.

You can learn how to get rid of dandruff, flakiness, and that scaly scalp naturally with alternative treatments. Treatment of this sort is not expensive, and certainly isn't as expensive as purchasing brand after brand of dandruff shampoo until you find a formulation that will work with your scalp and keep dandruff away. Many of the ingredients you will use to rid yourself of dandruff may be in your kitchen right now!

You may have seen rosemary shampoos on the shelves to be used for dandruff control, but once you learn how to get rid of dandruff by using natural products, you will never look back! To make a rosemary shampoo for yourself, combine:

Add all of the above to a jar large enough to mix and hold all of the ingredients around 500 ml should be perfect. This mixture has to steep for 2 weeks before it will be ready to use. Shake the jar every other day to mix the ingredients. After the 2 week period is up, strain the shampoo mixture into a clean bottle. Use as you would regular shampoo, and leave on the scalp for 10 minutes before rinsing.

You can also use Soothing Scalp Remedy as a treatment to help restore moisture to your hair and dry scalp, it contains jojoba oil, lavender oil, Tea tree, rosemary and neen oil. It's really conditioning to both your hair and scalp.
