Have you ever wondered what causes dry scalp symptoms? If you are looking for answers to your own dry scalp problem, then you need to consider a dry scalp treatment in order to stop the problem in its tracks! A dry scalp can be extremely frustrating, as well as somewhat painful. If you have noticed that your scalp feels "tight" at times, this is because the skin of your scalp is just like the skin on the rest of your body. When it is too dry, it reacts by pulling itself tightly against your skull. Soon after this, it begins to show its displeasure at being so dry by sending a powdery white shower of dry skin down on your shoulders and back every time you comb or brush your hair.
You certainly can't ignore your dry scalp. Not that you would those flakes would see to that! If you don't take the time for a dry scalp treatment, you are setting yourself up for even more itchiness, and perhaps even an infection. If your dry scalp is caused from overuse of hair products that contain alcohol (which dries out the scalp) such as hair spray, styling gel, or mousse, ignoring the problem is just going to allow the scale from these products to continue to build on your head.
Dry scalp is usually caused when the sebaceous glands of the scalp are not producing enough oil for one reason or another. Without the proper amount of oil, neither the scalp or the hair have enough lubrication to perform as they were meant to. So, not only do you need a dry scalp treatment because your scalp is tight and flaky, but you also need a good hot oil treatment for your dull, dry, lifeless hair.
Fortunately, once you get your scalp in good shape, your hair should respond in kind, and be back to normal in no time at all. But, how to do this puzzles many of us. Our first response when we realize we need a dry scalp treatment is to head for the drugstore and start reading labels. While you're doing that, take a really close look at what you are considering using as a dry scalp treatment. Do you really want to put all of those chemicals on your already dry and irritated scalp? Aren't you at all afraid that these ingredients with the difficult-to-pronounce names might make your dry scalp problem worse?
The type of dry scalp treatment you need is a natural one, and the ingredients you need for it are probably right on hand in your kitchen and in your herb garden. If not, a quick trip to the grocery store will provide what you need. First, take some virgin olive oil extra virgin is not necessary, and it is more expensive, too and warm it up in the microwave.
Not the whole bottle, please! Pour a little into a glass bowl to warm it. Once the oil is comfortably warm, dip your fingertips into it, and begin to massage your scalp with the oil. Take your time, and be very thorough in rubbing the oil into the scalp. Once the oil has been applied, leave it on for about 30 minutes, then wash it out with a mild shampoo like baby shampoo. You may need to lather the hair more than once to get enough of the oil off of your scalp so that it will not look greasy once your hair is dry.
When you hair is properly rinsed, it's time for part two of your dry scalp treatment. Get out a jar or tin of dried thyme. You're going to use 4 heaped tablespoons of this herb in 2 cups of water, and boil the mixture for 2 minutes. Strain out the thyme carefully, and let this mixture cool, as it is a dry scalp treatment extraordinaire! To use, pour of the mixture over your damp hair. Rub it carefully into your scalp, and Do Not Rinse!
Place the other half of the thyme mixture in the refrigerator, to be used the next time you want to perform a dry scalp treatment. Once your hair dries, you'll be able to tell a real difference in it as well as your scalp. Now, isn't it nice to know you've solved your problem naturally?
